The Passover meal

Yahweh’s people were enslaved in Egypt against their will.  God sent them Moses to lead them out.  The Pharaoh of Egypt denied Moses request to be freed, so God sent ten plagues to convince Pharaoh to release them.  The last plague was the death of all firstborn.  The night of the tenth plague Yahweh gave Moses special instructions to kill a lamb and put the blood on the doorposts and lintels to their homes.  This was a sign to the Angel of Death not to harm their firstborn.  This final plague convinced Pharaoh to release Yahweh’s people.  They were then instructed to keep the Passover meal as a memorial of Yahweh’s salvation.  See Exodus 12:1-20

Memorial at Jordan

Yahweh had Joshua lead His people into the promised land after miraculously stopping the waters of the Jordan river.  Yahweh then had them gather up 12 stones and keep them as a reminder of what He had done for them and how He brought them into the land that He had promised them.

Then you are to tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off in the presence of the ark of the covenant of Yahweh; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones will be for a lasting reminder for the children of Israel.’”  And the children of Israel did that, just as Joshua commanded; and they took up twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan just as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they made them cross over with them to the camp and put them down there.  Joshua 4:7-8

Memorial at Ebenezer

When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines And the children of Israel said to Samuel, “Do not cease to cry out to Yahweh our God for us, so that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”  And Samuel took a nursing lamb and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh, and Samuel cried out to Yahweh for Israel, and Yahweh answered him.  And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel, but Yahweh thundered with a loud sound on the Philistines on that day and threw them into a panic; and they were struck down before Israel.  Then the men of Israel went out from Mizpah and pursued the Philistines and struck them down as far as below Beth-car.  Then Samuel took a stone and put it between Mizpah and Shen and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Yahweh helped us here.”    1 Samual 7:7-12
